OK Ghost Towns

Towns of Oklahoma's Past

Texola Post Office

While doing a little bit of research recently, I discovered that the Texola Post Office closed on 09/05/2009. That is really not that surprising. Texola has been a community in decline for some time now. It is considered a ghost town since the business district is completely in ruins and only a handful of residence remain.

I will try and make a trip to this border town with Texas and grab a few pictures. I have a few from a couple of years ago, but it will take me a while to locate them. Time for some new ones.

Parkersburg

I am currently researching information for a town that only existed for a few years and now nothing exist of it except for the cemetery.  Parkersburg was located about 3 miles SW of present day Clinton.  When the train tracks from two companies made them to intersect in Clinton the residents of Parkersburg realized that their town was domed and left.  Many of the homes and businesses were loaded up onto rail cars and moved to Clinton.  The train depot was moved to Canute.

I would love to get some pictures from the town or even stories about some of it’s residents.  I plan to make a trip to where the town once stood and at least get the GPS coordinates to post.
